Daddy and Me Crochet Hat

So, I have been trying to come up with a pattern for a mens hat for a while now that wasn’t too feminine and I finally made one I actually like! And the guys like it too! I randomly found this camouflage yarn at Walmart and knew it would be perfect for my mens pattern. Nothing screams “manly” like a camouflage beanie to match with your dad! My nephew is the cutest little stinker in his hats and he loves wearing them so I knew whatever I made for his dad needed to come in a mini size for my favorite little guy. I hope you guys like this pattern. It is one of my favorite to make so far.

Materials:

1 skein of Red Heart Camouflage yarn

4.5mm hook

Scissors

yarn needle

Special Pattern Stitches:

Gauge: 11 post stitches across is 3 inches long and 5 rows up is 1 inch tall.

FPHDC: YO and insert hook around the back of the stitch on the previous row, YO and pull loop up, YO and pull through all stitches on the hook.

BPHDC: YO and insert hook around the front of the stitch on the previous row, YO and pull loop up, YO and pull through all loops on hook.

Decrease: YO and follow the pattern (either FPHDC or BPHDC) but don’t finish the stitch (you’ll have 3 loops on your hook. YO and work the next post stitch (YO insert into post, YO and pull up loop) YO and pull through all 5 loops on hook.

Note: when you do your starting chain, make sure you’re keeping your tension loose! This hat is a very fitted beanie so if you do the chain too tight it will not fit properly. Make sure to check your gauge before you start!

note: when doing your decreases, it can get kind of confusing if it should be FPHDC or BPHDC so just keep following the rotating pattern. I tried to make the pattern as detailed as possible but if you have any questions, comment below and I will do my best to explain!

I hope this picture helps to show how the decreases look in the ribbing.
