Bulky Knit Hat

Hey guys! I know I usually do crochet patterns but I knit this hat up one day and I am obsessed! So, I had to share it with you all. I clearly have a thing for big pom poms and bulky yarn! This hat only took me about 2 hours to knit and is so easy and very beginner friendly! Lately, we have had FREEZING temps and a million inches of snow (ok, not a million but after 2 feet, it seems like a million!) and every time I have to leave the house I throw this guy on and it definitely keeps me warm. If you don’t like the folded up part of the hat, you can always unfold it and wear it as a slouchy beanie. Anyway, here is the pattern! I hope you enjoy it!

Materials:

1 skein of Yarn Bee- Effortless super bulky in Barn Owl.

size 11 (8mm) knitting needles

scissors

yarn needle

Pattern:

Note: this hat is worked in a flat piece and seamed together at the end.

CO 36 sts

Row 1: (wrong side) *K2, P2* repeat from * to * to end of row.

Row 2 (right side) *P2, K2* repeat from * to * to end of row.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 8 inches ending with a row 2.

Row 1 of crown shaping: (wrong side) *K2, P2tog (decrease 1 st)* repeat from * to * to end of row

Row 2: (right side): *P2, K1* repeat from * to * to end of row.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 of crown shaping until entire piece measure 11 inches

Finish off, leaving a long tail for seaming the hat, closing the top of the hat and attaching the pom pom.

Seam the hat.

Weave the end in and out of the stitches along the top of the hat and pull tight. Set aside.

Make pom pom.

Attach pom pom to the top of hat and make sure its secure. Weave in your ends and you’re all set! I did not block my hat. When it isn’t on it does look like it needs to be blocked but when its actually on, it looks like it was blocked so I didn’t find it necessary.

I’m not real good at writing knitting patterns (yet) so I hope its simple enough to understand! if you have any questions, feel free to comment and thanks for visiting!
